Wisp

Little wisp,
Like some beautiful, wild bird I'd caught
Lying on a sponge,
Letting me bathe you.
How could you be so happy,
Not knowing what waits.

Or maybe that's why,
You couldn't know the terror it is to love you
Laughing,
And I couldn't help but really love you,
Love too big to leave place in me for other concerns.

You were born to us late
Because
You were out playing
Wherever you were,
And no matter how much we called
you wouldn't come in too soon.

And finally, when it was time,
Your big hands
Grabbed the fabric of everything,
Stopped the world turning,
Just enough
To say,"Here is."
Every other thing paled.

Sleeping in our bed,
Your breath would bathe me
Like a compass
Pointing me to the truth..
